What is the contacts permission for?
Short answer
- What is read from my contacts?
- Only the name and first phone number. Emails, photos, addresses, notes and additional numbers are not read. An entry with no number is skipped entirely.
- What happens if I decline the contacts permission?
- The whole app keeps working. Only the sections that show what people you know are doing stay empty, and your invite list shows just the people you follow.
- Will people in my contacts know I joined innclude?
- innclude does not message anyone on your behalf. If someone in your contacts uses innclude and each of you has the other’s number, you may appear in each other’s friend lists; that is not a notification.
- Can I revoke the permission later?
- Yes. You can turn it off at any time in your phone’s settings. Once off, nothing further is read from your contacts.
innclude is built so you can make plans with people you already know. It does not set you up with strangers. That is exactly what the contacts permission is for: so you can see which of the people you know is going where this week.
What is read from your contacts
Two fields: the name and the first phone number. Nothing else is read. Email addresses, photos, home addresses, birthdays, notes and a person’s second or third numbers all sit outside the fields the app reads. Entries without a number, and numbers shorter than seven digits, are skipped entirely, because no account can be matched with them.
What it is used for
The numbers are used for matching against innclude accounts. The match produces exactly one thing: which people in your contacts have an innclude account. That list feeds two places, the Friends screen and the invite list for a plan. Your contacts are not used for advertising, targeting or anything else.
How much is visible
Visibility depends on your preferences and theirs: someone’s plan reaches you only if their own visibility setting allows it. Your plans follow the same rule, and you choose who can see an event while creating it. To hide yourself completely, turn off the Show my events switch on the Friends screen; you keep seeing everyone else’s plans.
If you decline
The app keeps working. You can discover events, buy tickets, create your own plan and invite the people you follow. The only things that stop are the ones a contacts match feeds: the Friends screen looks empty, your invite list shows just the people you follow, and you cannot create a plan with the Contacts visibility type.
After you allow it
The app does not read your contacts again from scratch every time it opens. It checks whether your contacts changed, and sends nothing when they have not. So unless you delete someone or fix a name, no new read happens.
Taking the permission back
You can switch innclude’s contacts permission off at any time in your phone’s settings. Reading stops, and the sections that depend on a contacts match go back to being empty.
